5 Thoughts On Commissioner Jim Gordon In 'Batman' #41, From DC Comics' Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo!
Something fresh and different is taking place in DC Entertainment, with the status quo in the New 52 Universe completely changing in the Batman series. With Police Commissioner's Jim Gordon new role, readers want to know what writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo have in store for readers in Batman #41.
As we previously mentioned, the Dark Knight had an epic confrontation with his arch-nemesis, the clown prince of crime. Batman, along with the Joker, sustained serious battle scars and lost large quantities of blood. The conclusion of Endgame promised nothing would ever be the same in Gotham City ever again. Someone has to step in and fill the void of a world without Batman.
Check out our 5 thought on Jim Gordon's new role as the caped crusader in Batman #41 here:
5) Something More Personal
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Severed writer explains his choice for Gordon picked up the Bat mantle, " "#40 was very personal in the way that it's sort of what Batman means to me. Zero Year was sort of what I hope he would mean for my kids, to try and create an origin that would speak to some of the fears they have for the way the world night be. Endgame is about saying, 'We're all afraid our lives might not mean much.' We live with all these fears. And so #41 is really, in the wake of that, again: who's going to step up and be Batman? What if it was you? It asks us, 'can we each be Batman in our way?"
2) What Happens In Issue #50?
This isn't the first time someone else stepped up and worse the Bat costume. Remember Knightfall and Jean Paul Valley (Azrael) become the Batman who killed. How messed up is Bruce Wayne, that not even Dick Grayson could handle being Batman? With the landmark issue #50 coming up, we both know Bruce Wayne will be back. So let's not get into a hissy fit with this change!
3) What Will Happen To The Others?
We're going to see what happens in a world without Batman. As we mentioned before, the only person that knows Dick Grayson is really alive is Bruce Wyane. So what's going to happen in the Grayson series? What's Damien Wayne going to do without his father? What's Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl, going to say when he sees her father in costume?
4) Pretty Gung-Ho About It
On Free Comic Day, we saw a sneak peak of Gordon being gung-ho about stepping into action. Capullo tells EW, "Even though this is a big plot twist-having Gordon in the suit-it's more about finding ways into the mythology in the characters that are personal to you. And I feel this Gordon story very strongly. For me, it's how the city would fall apart after a big disaster and come together and rally around a certain point, and whether or not Batman is part of the system that can work."
5) Gotham
With season 2 of Gotham underway, will Ben McKenzie become the vigilante and influence young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz)? Will the TV show follow the comics somehow? I don't care about the stupid muctache on McKenzie! I want him to wear the Bat-suit!
