'Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Return' #4 Review: Keanu Reeves' Wyld Stallyns Comic Is "Epic Fun!"
Based on the sci-fi buddy comedies, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, the Wild Stallyns are back in a new comic book series. Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves) and Bill S. Preston (Alex Winter) are an "epic fun" duo in BOOM! Studios' Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #4.
As we previously mentioned, The Great Ones have to fulfill their destiny and deliver their next big hit. Worried about becoming one-hit wonders, the slacker duo needed inspiration before they could achieve galactic harmony. Time traveler Rufus (a wonderful nod to the late George Carlin) provided some wisdom and set them again on the right path. In the third installment, the time-traveling duo found themselves in an alternate timeline where a younger Chuck De Nomolos is the rock star.
In the fourth installment, Bill and Ted realize Chuck had stolen their time machine, and messed with the time-stream. Chuck has stolen all their songs and claimed them as his. Because Bill and Ted are no longer the Great Ones, their lives have gone for the worst. Somehow, this slacker duo has to put things right again.
Writer Brian Lynch delivers snappy comebacks and hilarious one-liners as Bill and Ted banter around with alternate Bill. The best joke in the comic, Bill realizes Missy has divorced his father and married him afterwards. The comic sends an important message to young readers; there's always a second chance to mend broken friendships.
Artist Jerry Gaylord loosens up on the character designs and plays around with alternate Bill and Ted. Because he's no longer a rock star, Bill has become fat and lazy, walking around in his bathrobe. Ted on the other hand has bulked up since he has gone to the military.
A laugh-out-loud read, Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #4 is pure comedic gold.
