'Hannibal' Recap [SPOILERS] Season 3 Episode 2 'Primavera'- 5 Delicious Moments from Will Graham's Return

The season three opener of NBC's critically acclaimed series Hannibal, entitled "Antipasto" only showed us how Dr. Lecter has adjusted to life in Europe, with Bedilia by his side - even if she's terrified to be part of his new life. In episode two, entitled "Primavera," we get a taste of what Will Graham has been up to since the brutal events of last year's season finale episode. Hot on the trail of Lecter in 2015, tonight's episode reminded us why we love Graham so much. It seems like a weird tactic to show us the final scenes of last season, but it certainly didn't feel like a cop-out or anything like that. Yes, it was exactly what we saw in the bloody finale, but we're brought back to the recuperating Will Graham in one of the coolest uses of imagery in the series, which was a huge callback to season two in general: the shattered tea cup pieces reforming like Hannibal described. This time around though, the pieces became Will, who survived the attack, along with Abigail Hobbs. It looks like Lecter didn't kill two of his victims from last year.

"He wanted us to live," Abigail tells Will, though he responds, "He left us to die."

Yes, this was delicious!

Our second delicious moment comes when we're first reminded of just how smart Will is. Using his memory of a conversation with Hannibal, he finds out where to look for him - at the Norman Chapel in Palermo, Italy. This starts off the rising tension of the episode, because we know Graham is close to Lecter, but does Hannibal know? 

"Elegance is more important than suffering," Will says of God's "design." Yes, Will's figured out the Lord's motivation, though Abigail thinks he's talking about Hannibal.

Meanwhile, Will does end up helping out hte Italian police with a mysterious homicide of a corpse formed into the shape of a human heart. Yes, we're back to the more creative side of the show, and as we know from last week's closing scene, Hannibal has left his heart for Graham to find. Will actually says this, too, and it's better on-screen, so I apologize. When Graham jumps back into his empathy investigations, it's another amazing reminder of why the show is just so good. We love the show for the look, feel, food, and evilness, sure, but Graham makes it a crime series. 

"Il Monstro of Florence" is definitely an easy name to give a serial killer, but that doesn't mean its not cool. Plus, it was Hannibal's moniker when he was younger (that photo of young Mads Mikkelson was incredibly, right?), but it looks like he's finishing his previous masterpiece, placing his victims over time in the position of the painting "Primavera" by Sandro Botticelli. With the Italian detective retelling the story of seeing the young Hannibal, we're shown one of the most psychotic moments of the show. This is clearly one of our top five moments from the episode!

So, it turns out Abigail did in fact die and that Will was just imagining her presence throughout the episode. That's pretty insane, we know but we're not going to give it a "delicious" ranking because we all know Will is pretty crazy and that was a little predictable. Though, again, even though it's expected, it didn't feel dull; we still felt the heartbreak. We finally say goodbye to Abigail after thinking she was dead halfway through last season, only to have her return, which ended with her throat being slit by Hannibal. 

As Will comes to this realization, we learn that Hannibal's in the Chapel, watching his old friend. This leads to what we'll all remember as a stress nightmare of a scene. Will goes into the catacombs of the Chapel, which is filled with slight horror movie jump scares, to track down Lecter. Our intense Italian is down there, too, deciding that shouting to Will is a good idea. After what almost turned into a terrible situation, Will announces to Hannibal that he forgives him. Nobody dies as Lecter soaks in this statement. The episode draws to an end with an amazing moment.

Perhaps the most "delicious" moments in this episode had to be the return of the Stag. It happened about halfway through, but it really was the most important moment. Unlike the forms we've seen this creature in before, it evolves out of the broken man that Hannibal leaves for will. We thought it died, bled out last season, but the Stag has returned. 

It was hard to keep these portions of the episode to a five-count, but this should suffice for Hannibal fans. Let us know what you think!
