Lil Wayne's connection with YMCMB protege Drake was definitely not instant. In fact, Weezy really wanted nothing to do with the young Toronto "newbie" at first!

UPDATE: Lil Wayne Disses & Doubts Drake Before Cash Money Fame AGAIN, Too Honest? Nicki Minaj 'Better'

According to Jas Prince (son of Rap-A-Lot Records mogul J. Prince), the New Orleans emcee did not immediately vibe with Drizzy's sound. In a recent interview with Fader, Prince explains the initial interaction:

"At the time I was really cool with Lil Wayne, and I brought Drake to his attention, too. I was like, 'Yo, I have an artist I’m working with and I believe he’s dope.' His response was just: 'Jas, don’t ever play this for me again. He sucks!' But I’m persistent. Wayne didn’t stop me - I kept pursuing it, pursuing it, pursuing it" (via AllHipHop.com).

So Prince wouldn't stop. He kept playing tracks like "Replacement Girl," "Brand New," and the now infamous remix of "A Milli." The sound grew on Weezy, and the 6 God superstar flew to Houston the very next day.

See, anything can happen - look at Drake now!

Team YMCMB still holds strong, and apparently 32-year-old Wayne's ongoing beef with Cash Money founder Birdman continuously fizzles. Still, the highly-anticipated album releases of The Carter V and #FWA still remain total mysteries. And Cash Money still isn't totally off of the hook. Prince also discussed why he's suing the popular hip-hop label for a whopping $4 million. The former "Degrassi" actor had no idea that the industry big-names were trying to "freeze" Prince out of the deal:

Cortez Bryant is Wayne's manager. When we figured out that we wanted to work on the project, Cortez flew down to Houston and sat with me and my dad and we talked about how we were going to do it - 50/50, with him and Wayne and me and my dad, Young Money and Young Empire. But then things got quiet. We got a little call that they're moving on, things are happening [but] we ain't really got not deal together. My dad extended a hand and put a call out to Birdman and Slim, because those are his people over there. We went to meet in LA with Cash Money and Cortez and we all structured the deal that we had. They was trying to do it without me. It seemed like Drake didn't know too much about what was going on, the business part was kind of between us.
