Lostprophets Frontman Ian Watkins Arrested For Child Sexual Offenses, Conspired To Rape Young Child, Bail Rejected

In a shocking and disturbing development, the Welsh alternative rock band, Lostprophets' lead singer, Ian Watkins, 35, has been charged for sexual offenses against children. The singer has also been arrested by the South Wales Police, Dec. 17.

"The 35-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children," said a police spokesperson in a statement.

He is accused of two incidents involving  "sexual touching" of children. It has also been been alleged that he possessed "extreme" animal pornography.

Watkins was questioned by the Cardiff Bay Police. He also appeared in court wearing a black jacket with a high collar. Throughout the 90 minute hearing, Watkins did not speak anything. He was watched by his mother, the Daily Mail reported.

Watkins was denied bail and was remanded to custody. "They are the sort of charges which will cause public revulsion. The penalty would be a custodial sentence if they are found guilty," said Suzanne Thomas, prosecutor.

Apart from Watkins, two other women, aged 20 and 24 have also been charged with similar offences.

Watkins, was the ex boyfriend of Radio 1 DJ and TV presenter Fearne Cotton.

This news will shock fans of Lostprophets, who have sold 3.5 million albums in their 15-year history, the band was started in 1997. The band's "Last Train Home" (2004) climbed to #1 alternative rock position in the U.S.

The band has five albums to its credit, It's most recent one was "Weapons" that was released April 2012.

His band spearheaded the nu-metal scene in UK and has a teen fan base. Watkins will appear again in court Dec. 31.
