If you've been following the news around the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog's popular Uncharted video game series, you might want to take a seat. After years of development, we saw some progress recently when Sony hired director Seth Gordon to take on the project, but now the filmmaker has exited movie. This has left the movie once again in production limbo, which is pretty sad considering it has a release date set for 2016. Will Uncharted be cancelled after the director quit this week, or is there still hope? Read more on this news below.

According to The Wrap, Gordon has one foot out the door on this project, but it hasn't been confirmed yet. The website is confident that the director is almost certainly off of the film, though.

When the media reached out to Sony, a representative did not give a straight answer on this report, but more evidence suggests that a "new direction" wanted by Sony could be to blame for Gordon's exit. According to Slash Film, Tom Rothman, Sony's new chief, has been spending a lot of time reconsidering this movie, with this "new direction" becoming a serious issue.

Last summer, Gordon spoke at length about starting production on Uncharted in early 2015, which was a round the time that Chris Pratt was rumored to star in the film. As we can all tell, none of this has happened.
