We previously reported on this news, confirming that Miller had received a sentence of two years in jail for the death of Jones. We never heard from Hurt though, who was the biggest name on the project. Speaking to Global News Canada, Hurt recalled the incident in question with plenty of detail (via FilmDrunk).
"I just had an unsettled feeling from the very time I got there," Hurt explained in a phone interview.
The actor explained that he asked assistant director Hillary Schwartz whether or not the cast and crew were safe to film this dangerous scene on the train tracks. He was assured and reassured, but was obviously proven right to ask when the train barreled through the set only minutes later.
"I was barefoot and I turned around, I twisted my head and I said, 'Someone's going to die now,'" Hurt described, going into some sad detail about the six injured crewmembers and the death of Jones.
He added: "It's the sorrow of my professional life and one of the great sorrows of my personal life. It was simply impossible to imagine anything like that could happen."
