According to an inside source that spoke with Heroic Hollywood, Daugherty's script is completed and a director, preferably a female one, is needed. Daugherty recently worked on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divergent, Snow White And The Huntsman and G.I. Joe 3.
It's pretty refreshing to see women as top choices in the predominantly male industry, but which filmmakers should we consider? Well, according to this new rumor, one name is already at the top of the studios' list.
"Well the script is out to directors and here is the kicker, they're looking for a female director, a Michelle Maclaren type," the latest rumor states, according to IGN.
This brings us to our first name on our list: Michelle Maclaren.
The acclaimed director is responsible for some of the most iconic episodes of AMC's Breaking Bad, which has her set for a bright future. She was recently hired to direct the new Wonder Woman movie, but left the project. Do you think she'd be more interested in Tomb Raider?
When Maclaren left Wonder Woman, she was replaced by Patty Jenkins, who is also on our list! Jenkins is another impressive TV show director, having directed episodes of The Killing, Arrested Development and Entourage. We believe that she has what it takes to bring Lara Croft back to life on the big screen.
We'd be severely mistaken not to have Selma director Ava DuVernay on this list. She's already in talks to direct Black Panther for Marvel, but we'd love to see her take on Croft's adventures in this reboot.
Director Kathryn Bigelow has already proven to the world that female directors are some of the greatest filmmakers around. It would just be amazing to see what she would do with this rebooted adaptation!
When we talk about Lara Croft, though, we have to bring up Angelina Jolie, who is now an acclaimed director. Do you think she'd return to this franchise behind the camera? We think that this is a match made in heaven! Jolie's films have told amazing stories, which could be the winning ticket for this reboot!
