Katherine Heigl & Alexis Bledel Star in LGBT Friendly Comedy 'Jenny's Wedding'

Katherine Heigl is to star alongside Alexis Bledel in yet another romantic comedy involving a wedding, except this time the plot involves a lesbian couple coming out to their parents about their impending marriage. The darker context of this film, entitled Jenny's Wedding, and the contemporary struggles that are relatable to gays in the United States appears heart-wrenching and touching to say the least and the timing of the film's release couldn't be better with the Supreme Court's ruling on legalizing same-sex marriage in all fifty of the United States.

The film follows Heigl's character, Jenny, who is being pestered by her invasive, conventional family about how she is too picky and that she needs to find the right man, settle down and get married. Finally, Heigl's character can't take it anymore and decides to tell them that she is in fact in a relationship and that it's with her (what they have believed for years and years to be) roommate. In the trailer Heigl's character's mother looks at her questioningly asking who the man is and why would telling her that she's getting married be so difficult. Heigl answers by saying that she is marrying Alex Bledel's character and the mother says, "You're marrying your roommate?" and Heigl answers, "She's not my roommate. I'm gay."

In addition to Heigl's talent as an actor, Tom Wilkinson plays her father, Linda Emond her mother, alongside Grace Gummer, Diana Hardcastle and Sam McMurray as the supporting cast. The trailer that was recently released shows how each family member deals with not only the news of Jenny's impeding nuptials but also how they are coming to terms with the new information they are learning about Jenny as well.

Directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue, the project raised $96, 691 from a campaign on Indiegogo according to Variety. The trailer has recently been released by IFC Films and will be showing in theaters July 31st.
