4th of July Fireworks Malfunction: Nine People Burned in Colorado
It wouldn't be the 4th of July weekend without some reports about malfunctioning fireworks, right, folks? And near Vail, Colorado, it's being reported that nine people have been confirmed injured when some fireworks shot into the crowd at a July 4 celebration.
CNN is reporting that near the end of the 23-minute show, "a shell apparently exploded in its tube rather than firing correctly into the sky," per a statement from Avon town manager Virginia Egger.
The manager further stated that the misfire caused the rack of shells to "tip in two directions" which then allowed for a few shells to be shot into the crowd.
Officials are calling this malfunction a "rare" one, stating that public safety has "always been our number one priority."
Take a look at a video about the incident from CNN over on the site.
WARNING: the video is a bit NSFW from all the cursing. Which, well, is rather understandable – we can only imagine the words coming out of our mouths should a firework be shot into a crowd we were in.
After the incident went down, many took to Twitter to express their thoughts, and even some video:
