Jennifer Lawrence Movie 'Joy' Release Date News: David O. Russell Film in Theaters Dec. 2015
David O. Russell's next film, Joy, will be an excitingly true rags-to-riches story starring actors that he has enjoyed working with in previous films: Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and Dascha Polanco. The film has a release date set for Christmas Day, 2015 and follows the story of a family across four generations and one woman who rises to become the "founder of the matriarch of a power family business dynasty."
Joy is based on the real-life story of the entrepreneur Joy Mangano, who invented the Miracle Mop combined with a few other business pioneers' stories. Lawrence will be portraying Mangano, a Long Island single mom who wanted to invent a mop that wrings itself out so that you didn't have to get your hands dirty. O. Russell has proven himself as a director before and he will undoubtedly put a great spin on this story. Much like his other films, there's struggle and hopefulness thriving in his characters and Joy will most-likely be a trip through a world where there is gritty, yet heartwarming reality.
The story was written by Annie Mumolo who is a member of the comedy troupe, the Groundlings, and is most known for This Is 40 and co-writing Bridemaids. Russell wrote the screenplay and has had extreme success during the last couple of years during Oscar season with The Fighter (2010), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), in which Lawrence won an Academy Award for her performance, and American Hustle (2013). We can only expect that he will pull through and show us another amazing triumph, not only of his own creation, but that of his character archetypes that always seem to be struggling.
O. Russell has a keen eye for what he specifically wants to work on and Lawrence recalls him texting her at four o'clock in the morning asking her if she wanted to work on this particular film. With a dynamite cast including De Niro, O. Russell can't go wrong. Fox is distributing the film along with Kung Fu Panda 3 and Mission Impossible 5.
The teaser trailer has yet to be released, but it's safe to say that many will be anticipating this next gem that will motivate audiences everywhere.
