Mariah Carey's Ex-Husband, Tommy Mottola Claims He Was Controlling And Responsible For Diva's Success In New Memoir
Tommy Mottola, Mariah Carey's ex-husband and record executive is taking credit for the singer's success. The diva called Mottola a "controlling" man who had "mentally and emotionally" abused her in their four-year marriage.
The record executive married the singer when she was only 23-years-old, says that he is to be credited for the widely success of the Carey who is 20 years his junior. In Mottola's new memoir "Hitmaker" the famous ex-husband says, "If it seemed like I was controlling, I apologize," he wrote, "Was I obsessive? Yes. But that was also part of the reason for her success."
In 1993, Mottola divorced his wife for the "Vision of Love" singer and claims that if he didn't push Carey to keep working and let her take a break from music, she wouldn't be the be the superstar she is today, according to the New York Post.
The 63-year-old executive who is now married to singer Thalia admitted, "My feeling was that there'd be plenty of time for Mariah to celebrate just a little ways down the road. I'm not talking 10 years, just a few."
Although, taking some credit, he does leave the singer a little for her talent saying her abilities are incomparable. He reaction was a vivid memory the day he received Carey's demo, "An unbelievable energy was running through me, screaming, 'Turn the car around! That may be the best voice you've ever heard in your life.'"
The mother of twins, Moroccan and Monroe with husband Nick Cannon dismisses Mottola's claims and refers the marriage as "private hell" and claims it was her work and talent that made her an international success, "I came to him with the voice that I have. I came to him with the songs that went on to be Number One records," Carey said.
