"Crazy Jewish Mom" and Daughter Kate Go Viral on Instagram
The stereotype of a helicopter mom, or even the overbearing Jewish mother that just wants grandchildren, has been around forever. Viral Instagram sensation "Crazy Jewish Mom" (Kim Friedman) and daughter Kate Siegel 26, interviewed together on ABC News recently. Not too long ago, Kate created an Instagram account to document the funny, disturbing, obnoxious and borderline "crazy" things her mother texts her by taking screen shots of her mother's texts or the screen showing just how many missed calls she has from her mom. Mom lives in New Jersey while Kate lives in New York and since Kate is an only child, her mom has a bit of trouble being separated so Kim accepts the fact that texting will be her prime way of communicating with Kate 24/7, often referring to Kate as "Spawn."
The Instagram page has generated over 640,000 followers and Kate is always posting some of the worst things that her mother texts her. Whether it relates to what she's eating, wearing, beauty tips or especially that her boyfriend of a little over a year, who her mother refers to as "SuperJew", hasn't proposed yet and that Kate should move on. Sometimes Kim even recommends specific men to Kate and encourages her to go on JDate or other dating sites to meet men who are ready to commit because Kim wants grandchildren.
This wasn't always the situation for Kim but she does indeed have a lot of energy. Back in her heyday, she was a director for some major TV series like Beverly Hills 90210, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Life Goes On, The Love Boat and many more. Now you can tell she still commands and directs. Throughout the ABC interview, she would look at the cameras and ask why they were there. She also doesn't mind Kate publishing her texts so much. She believes it to be a bit like "reality TV" and does comically ask why everyone has to know what she texts her daughter, but then she laughs.
The two ladies have generated a lot of buzz with the account and you can check them out in person on the ABC interview here and do check out their page. It's hilarious!
