Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth To Star in Upcoming Film 'The Dressmaker'
Another steamy couple on screen takes its form in Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth in the upcoming film The Dressmaker. The film is set in the 1950s and follows Myrtle "Tilly" Dunnage (Winslet) who recently moved back to her hometown in Australia to take care of her aging mother. Myrtle has traveled all over the world and become quite accomplished at, you guessed it, dress designing. It is evident that she doesn't fit in with the people of her town anymore, and she must face a tough past that comes back to get her. The much younger Teddy McSwiney (Hemsworth) remembers Myrtle from the old days and his interest has piqued to see her return.
Winslet's character also tries to use her talents for the good and transforms a misfit girl named Gertrude "Trudy" Pratt (Sarah Snook of Jessabelle and Predestination). She shows the girl how to indulge the often sexually occupied male mind to her advantage and to take pride in her appearance. Others who make up the rest of the cast are Hugo Weaving, Caroline Goodall, Judy Davis and more. Jocelyn Moorhouse, who most recently wrote Unconditional Love and produced Peter Pan, directs the film that is based on the book written by Rosalie Ham. News.com.au describes the film as, "a tale of love, revenge and haute couture set in the 1950s, as Unforgiven with a sewing machine. Rather than a six shooter, the lead character wields her vintage Singer to similarly devastating effect."
The film is set to hit theaters on Oct. 22 of this year. Check out the official trailer that makes the film out to be an uplifting drama and struggle of woman to fit in — and you get to see a very shirt-less Hemsworth, which is always a treat!
