Shakira And Gerard Pique Welcome Baby Boy Milan, Into The World, Fans Congratulate The Couple
Colombian singer Shakira has given birth to a baby boy, Jan. 22.
Shakira and FC Barcelona soccer player and boyfriend Gerard Pique became the proud parents of "Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn)." The baby was born at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain.
The couple posted a statement in Facebook in English, Spanish and Catalan that read, "We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak."
The statement also gave the meaning of baby's name, Milan, "[it] means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification."
Milan also becomes a member of FC Barcelona soccer club, "just like his father."
This is the couple's first child together and the baby was weighing "6lbs. 6 ounces." The statement also reiterated that both Shakira and Milan were in good health.
Some hours earlier before the birth of her child, she Tweeted, "I'd like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life. Shak."
Shakira, 35, met Pique, 25 in 2010. They confirmed that they were dating March 2011.
Shakira and Pique were party to a UNICEF charity event launching a virtual baby shower where fans were asked to donate money to the charity that was supporting children's lives.
Las month, Pique sent a Tweet saying "Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages!" It was later confirmed to be a prank for Spanish April Fool's Day.
