Awkwardness for Ex-Fiances Charlize Theron and Sean Penn for 'The Last Face' Reshoots

Even though the couple has split, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn were forced to work together yet again on reshoots for The Last Face after only six weeks of splitting up. Us Weekly said that they "broke the news in December 2014 that the longtime friends became secretly engaged after a year of dating." After news of their engagement last year and the time they have spent together on set together professionally, Theron and Penn called it quits.

This seemed a bit out of the blue and happened back in June when Theron just coldly stopped communicating with The Last Face director. "According to the source, 'Charlize wasn't responding to his calls and texts. She just cut it off,'" Inquisitr reports. "We don't know exactly why Theron refuses to answer Sean's phone calls and texts, but this definitely isn't a good sign. The pair were inseparable at the Cannes Film Festival, and according to a source, 'Sean and Charlize looked very happy together while at the Hotel Du Cap. [There were] no signs of tension or a breakup.'"

The break-up alone was a shock seeing as not long before that Theron had done an interview with Elle and Esquire gushing about her fiance, and the Inquisitr reports that Theron said, "We've been friends for 20 years... The marriage thing is always so strange to me. I love the possibility of anything, but I'm really enjoying myself and the everyday moment and how that coincides with my son and my life and my friends. I'm a very, very, very lucky girl. Very lucky. He's hot. He is hot." It seems as though working together may have done the trick as Inquisitr says, "Working together on the project definitely took a toll on the relationship. Everyone knows how intense Sean is, and there is no exception on movie sets. Charlize felt he was overly critical of her at times. Separating work and personal became hard, and the lines were definitely blurred."

It was a bit shocking to hear of their breakup and it's quite awkward that they would have to continuously work on the very same project that may have drove a wedge between the pair. We hope that they can wrap up the reshoots quickly and move on.
