Salma Hayek Slams Donald Trump Before Republican Debate: "I Cannot Be Insulted by Stupidity"

Salma Hayek shut down presidential candidate Donald Trump in a recent interview before the first Republican debate this coming Thursday, Aug. 6. The Mexican-born actress refuses to be upset by Trump's problematic comments on Mexican immigrants, Hayek said.

"I'm not insulted because I cannot be insulted by stupidity," Hayek told the Los Angeles Times after talking about her upcoming movie The Prophet. "Everybody's entitled to have uninformed opinions. Everybody's entitled to be dumb. But I'm not dumb, so I see through the manipulation."

Hayek was responding to a question about Trump's comments on immigration. Back in June, Trump stirred controversy when he said that immigrants coming to America from Mexico are criminals, drug dealers and rapists.

"We have something to learn from this," Hayek added. "That is that the educated people or the people with great human values have to wake up, because they are under the illusion that most of this country is like them and sometimes they don't even go to vote."

Hayek has long been outspoken on politics and equality. This also isn't the first time she's addressed Trump's comments on Mexican immigrants.

Last week, she told E! that she refuses to say Trump's name – which, you'll note, she didn't do in her Los Angeles Times interview.

"I don't repeat [Trump's comments] and I don't say his name because I don't want to give him extra publicity," Hayek said.

In that interview, she noted another positive to the negative comments.

"This concept of America being a place where there is no discrimination, and it's not racist anymore, and we had the Civil War and the good people won, I think it's beginning to show that discrimination and racism in this country is a bigger problem than we accept it is," Hayek said. "At least he brought a light into a real problem."

Kelly Osbourne did not come out as strong in her attempt to drag Trump.

"If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilets, Donald Trump?" Osbourne said on The View.

Her comment brought about a wave of criticism, and she has since apologized for the comment.
