Bill Maher on Donald Trump, Megyn Kelly GOP Debate Feud: Thinks He Could Be Next President?
Following Donald Trump's alleged win at the Republican primary debate – which sparked a new "feud" with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly – comedian Bill Maher spent a few minutes on Friday's Real Time discussing the (terrifying) possibility of the former Celebrity Apprentice star actually becoming the next President of the United States.
While Trump's outspoken statements have garnered him a large number of wars with famous names in the past – anyone from Kelly to Senator John McCain and fellow Republican nominee Senator Lindsey Graham – it seems that he's somehow managed to eke out a successful presidential run thus far––becoming the leading candidate in the Republican party, according to a recent poll over at The Wall Street Journal.
With that in mind, Maher questioned those who believe it to be ridiculous that Trump could be the next president, likening the situation to that of Ronald Reagan's.
"It was a joke," Maher said of Reagan's initial run. Of course, the then-actor would go on to serve as president from January 1981–January 1989.
"For all those people who say Donald Trump could not go all the way, I don't think they're right. They didn't say he would get this far."
Maher then claimed that he's not exactly sure who "won" Thursday night's debate but he feels one thing is certain: Fox News tried to put a "stake" in Trump but failed.
"I don't think they did..." he said.
The segment continued to discuss Trump's performance, with (most of) the panel agreeing that much of his comments are based on "nonsense" and not actual policy. But, of course, the polls do not seem to care – as he's still leading.
The HBO host believes this largely has to do with the fact that Trump is saying everything people are screaming at their television sets every night.
That, or maybe they just like the idea of the White House turning into the Trump House.
Who knows...
