50 Shades of Grey Movie Casting News UPDATE, Christian Grey: Ian Somerhalder Teases TMZ, Matt Bomer Gay 'Controversy' Debate [POLL]
Ready for some fresh "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie casting news involving two of the hottest Christian Grey fan-favorites, Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer?
Check it out!
The celebrity gossip gurus over at TMZ recently caught up with the 34-year-old "Vampire Diaries" heartthrob... and when a reporter asks if Somerhalder thinks he has a "good chance at playing Christian Grey," the former "Lost" star answers with a quick, "You never know."
Of course TMZ host and founder Harvey Levin takes the actor's noncommittal response as a definite "That sounds like a yes."
Which immediately sparks another rendition of the heated debate... which Hollywood hottie makes a better Christian Grey, Somerhalder or Bomer?
Another reporter at TMZ brings up the fact that Bomer has caused some Christian Grey casting controversy since the "White Collar" star is openly gay. A female staffer then comments that some fans would rather see a straight actor (like Somerhalder) cast in the highly-coveted role because it is one "so closely associated with straight female sexuality." Levin disagrees, arguing that straight actors plat gay characters all the time (hello, "Brokeback Mountain"), so it's really not such a big deal. He then goes on to explain that he wouldn't care if two straight males were cast as gay characters in a movie with similar kinky themes... the rest of his staff immediately jokes that this only means he's attracted to straight men and that's the end of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" talk.
So what do "Fifty Shades" enthusiasts think - does Bomer's sexual orientation really matter? It appears that several fans actually agree with Levin (and not with controversially outspoken screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis), considering Bomer continues to reign supreme in several casting polls (right alongside Somerhalder).

As Mstarz originally reported:
34-year-old Somerhalder remains a prominent fan favorite in several of Mstarz's Christian Grey-related casting polls. Most of the buzz is due in part to Somerhalder's own actions. Several fans and critics believe that the "Vampire Diaries" star's recently released trailer for the short film project "Time Framed" makes a perfect "Fifty Shades" screen test/audition. Not to mention that the Louisiana native recently caught some attention on Twitter when he auctioned off his own personal copy of "Fifty Shades of Grey" in promotion of the IS Foundation (read more on that here).
Somerhalder recently discussed all of the Christian Grey hoopla with Mr. Porter Online, explaining, “Oh man, there's nothing official. It's just talk,” before then jesting, “Yeah, there's a website you can go to where you can just outfit your basement as a dungeon. So, you know, I thought I'd get prepared, just in case.”
Meanwhile...
With 35-year-old Matt Bomer's tall, dark, and handsome physique and smooth, charming vibe, several "Fifty Shades" fans believe that Bomer fits the overall description of the good-looking, intelligent, and wealthy Christian Grey pretty well. And now there's the debut of Bomer's Caffrey Collection, a menswear line of Alton Lane suits, shirt packages, ties, and pocket squares designed by the "White Collar" star himself. Fans were so obsessed with con-artist Ned Caffrey's dapper style on the hit drama series, that Bomer and the USA network partnered with the popular online retailer Gilt.com to create the collection reminiscent of Caffrey's look. The collection just debuted on Gilt.com on Tuesday, January 22, check it out here.
So fans decide... Team Ian or Team Matt?
