Deion Sanders' Daughter Joins Bikini Basketball League, PHOTOS: Deiondra Sanders an Atlanta Peach, 'Not Like the Lingerie Football League'
Deiondra Sanders is following in her father Deion Sanders' athletic footsteps... well, sort of. The stunning daughter of the former NFL and MLB all-star recently joined the Atlanta Peaches, one of the debut teams of Cedric Mitchell's Bikini Basketball League. While her Hall of Fame father was initially worried and upset over hearing the news that his "little girl" would be prancing around the basketball court in a scanty two-piece bikini, Deiondra managed to quell his fears after realizing the BBL is nothing like the Lingerie Football League. And now Deiondra is ready to start her career as a (sexy) "real-life hooper."
Several weeks ago, Deiondra tweeted the news that she's joined the Bikini Basketball Association (BAA):
@DeiondraSanders: "Getting ready for basketball practice."
During a recent interview with Toronto's Fan 590, the young Sanders reveals about her decision to join the female basketball league -
"At first I was a little discouraged but then I found out that we only wear sports bras and spandex. We're not running down the court in bikinis, which I know many of you wish we was. So once I found that out I wasn't discouraged at all."
And while her parents weren't initially pleased with the idea, Deiondra explains - "My dad was kind of upset, but that's like any parent who just sees bikini league. He thought I was gonna be out there in a bikini. He [saw] a picture of our uniform and stuff like that, so I think once he saw that we're actually covered up a little bit, he wasn't as concerned."
According to Deiondra, the BAA is nothing like the more "provacative" Lingerie Football League:
"I just think that it's a lot different because we actually do have players, real basketball players, that actually have played in the WNBA before... So I think that this will make a difference because people are really gonna see real-life hoopers. They just look good while doing it."
The Bikini Basketball League announced plans to begin play in June 2013, made up of eight teams of "bikini-clad women selected for looks, personality, and playing ability." Along with the Atlanta Peaches, teams include the Chicago Crave, the Illinois Heart, the Los Angeles Ice, the Miami Spice, the Minnesota Mist, the Orlando Lady Cats and the Philadelphia Diamonds.
