Diane Sawyer Retires 2013: Anchor Leaving ABC News To Take Care Of Ill Mother Or Drinking Issues?
Diane Sawyer may retire as long time anchor of ABC news in 2013. The broadcasting veteran has talked to her family and friends and has been considering the inevitable break to relax and help her mother fight an illness.
According to the New York Daily News' insider, "She has discussed with a few close friends and some people at ABC that she is seriously considering retiring," an insider added, "She said she'll be ready to hang it up not long down the road. She loves work and what she does and has endless energy, but she's overwhelmed with personal problems and she is thinking about leaving to take care of her family."
The 67-year-old "ABC World News" current anchor had accomplished much during her long career. The famous anchor nabbed interviews with Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro and President Obama, and Whitney Houston to name a few. Although just rumors for now the journalism world may feel a major void while she's gone, "No one wants to see her going through a rough time," adds a source. "She's the nicest woman. If it's a co-worker's birthday, she'll throw a party. Anything to show everyone a good time."
Diane may not be looking for retirement to rest and relax, but to look over her mother, "Diane has been going home for long weekends for years every couple of weeks, and that has not been new," says the source. "She doesn't have any plans to be taking off any time."
An ABC rep says the reports are false and "a bunch of nonsense." Although, very serious about her work, many saw a different side of Diane Sawyer when footage of her drinking wine and taking pills while on break at her anchor desk. The footage of her also shows her talking about another celebrity, and gestures that the person was on drugs.
