David Beckham to Play for Paris-Saint Germain in France: Becks moves Posh and Kids to Paris for New Career Back in Europe
David Beckham, the most recognizable soccer player (or footballer), ended his career with the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, the L.A. Galaxy, and is on his way back to Europe to play for the French club team, Paris-Saint Germain. In December, Beckham ended his stint with the Galaxy with a second consecutive MLS title for the team. His retirement from the MLS was never meant to be a retirement from the professional world of soccer, but just a break from play. That break is now over as David Beckham is set to move his family from their Britain home to Paris, France, in order to start his career in the French league, Ligue 1.
Always in demand, David Beckham is said to have seen bids from 12 different teams before choosing Paris-Saint Germain (and the deep pockets that own the team). No news on the current deal, but last season the French club offered Beckham $1 million a month to play, which he turned down to spend one last season in Los Angeles for much less. I would assume this new deal is around the same as the last offer. The 37-year-old athlete has already seen European championship success over his vast career (starting in 1993) with former teams Manchester United and Real Madrid. If Paris-Saint Germain wins the French title this upcoming season, David will have won 4 domestic titles in as many countries, which would be a record breaking feat in the world of sports. Beckham will be joining an already impressive squad with numerous greats including Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva.
David Beckham's age does come into play. At 37 years of age, he is trying to avoid injury and stay relevant in a young man's sport. Fortunately for Paris-Saint Germain, David Beckham is still quite relevant for a number of reasons. Thanks to branding his name into endorsements including fragrances, David has made quite the name for himself off of the pitch. He was even an underwear model for a few years. Beckham is married to former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham (AKA Posh Spice), and they enjoy the spotlight as one of the biggest celebrity couples of all time. They have four children together and have battled tabloid rumors for years, always coming out on top. Besides his success off the field, David Beckham can still keep up with these younger players! The aforementioned teams bidding for the Becks all commented on how they were in search for a new leader and play-maker. Despite his age, he still has the most famous right foot in the history of the sport. An announcement is set to be made today concerning Beckham's role as the newest member of Paris-Saint Germain.
