Colin Kaepernick is gearing up for the super bowl with the San Francisco 49ers and his biological grandparents are opening up about the pregnancy and the sad day they had to give him up for adoption.
Phyllis and James Zabransky revealed that during their daughter's Heidi Russo's pregnancy, they had offered to help her raise the baby and are hoping to reconnect with the 25-year-old star athlete. At the time of adoption, they decided to follow the choice of their daughter who proceeded with the process, and admitted they didn't know who the father was, "Heidi's thoughts and feelings at the time were her own of course but we thought she would keep him," James said. His wife Phyllis added, "We would have supported Heidi. We didn't force her to give him up it wasn't like that."
When the grandparents asked about his father, James said, "We don't know why his father has never acknowledged him or why his mother has never said who he is. He continued, "We've never met the man. We don't even know who he is. It's something I'll never understand."
Although the grandparents don't know exactly who the father is their daughter Heidi said she still knows, "I know who he is. I know where he is. I always have. But that isn't something I'm prepared to share and he has never acknowledged his son."
Although, it seems that Heidi missed out on raising an all-star athlete her parents believe that it all came out for the best for Quarterback, "It's very difficult for us but we have supported Heidi over the years and it's a happier story for Colin really. The people who raised him have done such a wonderful job."
