Victor Cruz, John Mara, New York Giants, Raise [VIDEO]: New York Giants Receiver "Not Asking for Much" with Big Pay Raise Request

New York Giants star receiver, Victor Cruz, has asked owner, John Mara, for a big pay raise, but considers it a well-deserved reward for his performance over the last two seasons. In 2011, Cruz set a single-season record of 1,536 yards for the Giants. This last season he posted 86 catches, 1,092 yards and 10 touchdowns. Victor Cruz joined the New York Giants in 2010 as an undrafted free agent but suffered a head injury early in the season, leaving him on injured reserve until the following season. Regarding his raise demand, Cruz stated:

"I think I have definitely proven myself to be one of the highest compensated receivers in the league," Cruz said. "That's kind of the way that I feel and my team feels, not only on the field, but as well as what I bring to the Giants as a brand and as an activist and person in the community. I think all of that taken into account; I'm definitely not asking for much as far as what's on the table."

New York Giants owner, John Mara, has shared his feelings on the situation, agreeing with Cruz's importance to the team but hesitant to agree to a large pay raise. Mara is clearly not turned off by Victor's demands and seems very willing to negotiate with the receiver in order to keep him in New York. Going into the off season, the New York Giants are already $4.2 million over the salary gap with 22 players set to become free agents. As a free agent himself, it is understandable for Cruz to want to have some security along with a sense of appreciation from the franchise. Cruz said earlier in this season that there was some sort of "structure" in regards to raising his salary, but with the exceded cap it looks like that was not the case. In regards to facing this negotiation, Mara said: 

"He's been a terrific player for us, he's a fan favorite, he does a lot for our franchise, but there is a limit."
