Sarah Jessica Parker Almost Wasn't 'Sex and the City's' Carrie Bradshaw
Could there have really been a world where someone other than Sarah Jessica Parker played Carrie Bradshaw? Despite how crazy it might seem, there was once a time where the iconic character almost had a different face. It is being reported that Parker tried extremely hard to get out of her contract to play the Manhattan fashionista. According to Broadway star Seth Rudetsky, who starred with the actress and her husband Matthew Broderick in his Provincetown Broadway concert series, Parker was super reluctant to do the show.
According to Us Weekly, Rudetsky recalled that the HBO series almost was completely different than what we know today.
"[She] was reluctant to do the pilot because she didn't really want to do a series. However, she loved the script, so she filmed it and then forgot about it," the actor explained. Months later she found out the show was picked up and she completely wanted to get out of it. I mean, completely. She really didn't want to be tied down to one job because she loved going from gig to gig and being, what she called, a 'journeyman.'"
Rudetsky even touched upon the various ways that Parker tried to get out of her contract with the network, in his column for Playbill.com, saying she told "HBO that she would film three projects for free if they'd release her from her contract!"
However, once she got over the initial cold feet of being tied down to a series Sarah had "no regrets," and "she loved playing Carrie Bradshaw." So much so that another big screen movie is allegedly in the works.
The starlet crashed the Internet this past spring when she posted a picture on her Instagram account with a cryptic caption, stating, "I guess that cat's out of the (little brown) bag. As usual, we will keep you posted on every detail as we are able. I'm under strict gag order until then."
However, E! News later reported that the post was "not in relation to the Sex and the City property."
