Monica Quan, Keith Lawrence, "No Motive" Murder: Cal-State Fullerton Assistant Basketball Coach and Fiance Killed in Double Homicide

Monica Quan, California State Fullerton's 28-year-old assistant women's basketball coach and her fiancé, Keith Lawrence, 27, were killed on Sunday night in Irvine, California, in a bizarre double murder. The Couple was found shot to death in a car at the condominium complex where they lived. Originally thought to be a robbery gone wrong, the fact that nothing was stolen has ruled out that possibility. Police have yet to identify any suspects and have found no motive for the homicide. The possibility of murder-suicide has also been ruled out.

Residents of the condominium complex say it is not difficult for anyone to break into the parking garage despite being controlled via keycards and codes. One resident, Nick Chapman, shared his own account of parking garage problems:

"We've been having some smash-and-grab break-ins for about two years. My car got broken into, my wife's car got broken into. We're definitely going to watch over our shoulder a little bit more. You certainly don't want to have to be concerned for safety where you live."

The parking facility surveillance cameras have yet to be pulled for the investigation.

At a press conference on Monday, Cal-State Fullerton head coach, Marcia Foster, spoke about the murder of Quan:

"Here's what I want to tell you: I want to tell you that a really bright light was put out way too soon. Somebody, whose passion was impacting young women through the game of basketball, has been taken away from us in a very unfortunate situation. As a second-year assistant for me, she was someone I counted on to tell me the truth, I loved that about her. I loved her work ethic. I loved her passion for life. We are going to have some work to do because too many young women have been affected by this."

Quan and Lawrence met at Concordia University, and then Quan moved on to coach women's basketball. Lawrence became a campus officer at USC. The couple just recently announced their engagement. Keith Lawrence was hired as a Department of Public Safety officer at the University of Southern California in August. The University expressed its sorrow over the loss of Lawrence with Chief and Executive Director John Thomas saying:

"We are a better department and the USC Campus Community is a safer place as a result of his service."

Despite the loss of Monica Quan, the California State Fullerton Titans are still set to play UC Riverside this Saturday.
