'The Flash' Season 2 Spoilers: Will Candice Patton/Iris West Leave Grant Gustin/Barry Allen?
With the first season cliffhanger leaving audiences hanging, the CW network has made two casting announcements for Season 2 of The Flash. Due to the death of Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett), will Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) end up "leaving" Iris West (Candice Patton) alone?
In our first season recap, Barry Allen as he awake from his coma, after being struck by lightning. Given super-speed powers, Barry belonged to small group of friends, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), who know his secret identity. They worked together against super villains, including Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), and teaming up with the Arrow (Stephen Amell). But they never realized their true enemy was lurking within their ranks, the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh).
According to Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg dishes on Candice Patton's new story arc as Iris, "Iris slides into [the role] very naturally. She's a born leader. One of the best things in the premiere is Barry decides that he wants to work alone because he doesn't want to risk anyone else's lives, and Iris is really the one who gets the band back together again. She's the only one who can stand up to Barry."
As we previously mentioned, Patty Spivot will be played by Shantel VanSanten (Gang Related). A cop and a science enthusiast, Patty is unaware that Barry Allen is falling for her. Because of her obsession with metahumans, she will be partnering up with Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) this season. Patty Spivot's addition will help "complicate Barry Allen's love life in Season 2." In the New 52 Universe, Patty is in the relationship with Barry, not the future Iris West Allen.
Season One ofThe Flash arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray September 22, 2015. The Flash returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, October. 6, at 8/7c.
