Police Officer Left To Die: Sergeant Ryan Russell Murdered By Snowplow, Richard Kachkar Pleading Insanity

Man who hit Officer Ryan Russell with snowplow is on trial for murder after leaving him to die. Officer Sgt. Sarah Andrews testified about what happened as she arrived on the scene finding him face down.

According to Ottawa Sun, Russell fired shots at Richard Kachkar after he was told to stop the vehicle and refused. Andrew testified, "I dropped to the ground and I tried to roll the body over," Andrews said. "I ended up rolling him on top of me and it was at that time I realized it was a police officer. I put my right hand underneath his head and I could feel a hole in the back of his head. There was a lot of blood pouring into my hand."

The coroner said that Russell's skull had been fractured by the snowplow's blade, and other witnesses at scene sais that the body was dragged at high speed, "I took his left hand and I held it and I could feel his wedding ring, and I just kept talking to him, telling him that he had to fight and to hold on, help was coming. I kept asking for help on the radio and another officer finally came. He helped me loosen up his vest and I put my hand under his vest to see if I could feel his heart beating. He was warm but I couldn't feel his heart beating," Andrews said.

Kachkar stolen the snowplow and was chased by Russell, at which point both men got out of their cars, but Kachkar went back into the vehicle and ran Russell over. Kachkar's is pleading insanity and is trying to prove that he didn't mean to kill Russell.
