A homeless man in Tumwater, Washington, feared for his life after a suffering a medical emergency, so he sent his loyal dog, Buddy, armed with a letter of desperation off to get help. A local woman who was out walking her dog soon found the Australian shepherd mix, Buddy. She noticed the letter attached to Buddy's harness and found the following despairing message scrawled on the paper:

"Send Help. No Joke. Cannot walk. Medicine not working. Need doctor."

The note did not include a name or location in the message, so the woman called the police allowing them to take over the search. With no indication of the homeless man's location, the police relied on word of mouth and discovered that a destitute man with a dog that fit Buddy's description lived in the nearby woods. After discovering an elaborate camp sight, the police discovered the man they were looking for. Detective Jen Kolb describes the man:

"He was absolutely immobile. He was in his camp and couldn't move from his location. He didn't have a phone to call anybody. No way to reach out to anybody for help, and he was afraid he was going to die."

Upon retrieving the ill man, the authorities brought him to a hospital in Olympia, Washington. The man was treated for his illness and released, reuniting him with Buddy in there campgrounds in the woods. Though he is homeless, he still has friends who contacted the media to inform everyone of his recovery. He does not want to be interviewed and would like to be left alone with his best friend, Buddy.

It is always amazing to think about the relationship between pets and their owners, especially when such crazy stories result from the relationships. This destitute man with no ties to the outside world lives with his dog, Buddy, with whom he trusts his life. Somehow this dog finds his way to a passerby and gets his master help before his demise. There are constantly stories like this one popping up all over news and, despite the happy endings; they are simply a bright tale to warm a heart. A lot of people find homeless people with pets to be unacceptable, especially for the animal. How can this person who can barely take care of him/herself be responsible for a pet? Sure that is a fine question to ask, but when events like Buddy saving his master keep popping up, it seems like it is still a healthy relationship.
