"Stone Cold" Steve Austin Slams 'Arrow' Actor Stephen Amell Summerslam Fight
On his podcast, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin reviewed the Summerslam pay-per-view with Pro Wrestling Torch editor Wade Keller and, while the two spoke highly on the Seth Rollins vs. John Cena match and the main event of Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker, not everything was spoken of so fondly. When it came to the booking of Stephen Amell's tag-team match with Neville, Austin just was not a fan. The hall of famer felt bad for the way Stardust and King Barrett were treated in the outcome of the fight against the Arrow star.
Austin went on to say that, when you have celebrities come into the ring, you have to protect the integrity of the business. The Amell booking did not do that.
"I just don't like the celebrities coming in there, the squared circle, and being able to compete at any level with the guys in the business. You've got to protect some integrity of the business. I don't care what day and age, what year it is," he said. "So was it embarrassing? You're damn right it was, but for the wrong reasons...and the reasons...bad booking."
Austin then said if the roles were reversed and Stardust was on an Amell movie or television show, Stardust would probably end up getting a minimal cameo. Keller agreed and said that sometimes the WWE cow touts to celebrities for mainstream attention.
The moment in the match that really made the hall of famer uncomfortable was the part where Amell flew off the top rope and landed on Barrett and Stardust. He didn't like how wrestlers were forced to sell to an actor.
"It was what it was, but I just got a hard time seeing that kid come off with that crossbody [block] on the top rope on two WWE guys down there [on the floor]," Austin said.
Do you think "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's assessment of Stephen Amell's role in the WWE was correct?
