Brian Williams Returns to NBC on Sept. 22 to Cover Pope Francis' Visit to United States

It looks as if the former king of NBC is returning ... but not to the throne. It's being reported that fired Nightly News anchor Brian Williams is indeed coming back to NBC this Sept. 22 to cover the first day of Pope Francis' visit to the United States. Well, actually, okay ... it's MSNBC. But still in the fam!

Anyway, The Hollywood Reporter is writing that Williams will "anchor live breaking news" just for that day while the oh-so-rogue Pope makes his visit to the U.S. The publication claims that Williams will more than likely not have a dedicated hour on the MSNBC schedule, as NBC president Phil Griffin is making some shake-ups.

As previously reported, the once-upon-a-time respected journalist was removed from his position as the Nightly News anchor, and Managing Editor of the very same program, for embellishing a story in which he claimed to have been on a helicopter that came under fire overseas. When it was discovered that the helicopter actually did NOT come under any fire whatsoever, there was speculation of more embellishments from some of Williams' past stories.

Though, in all honesty, he calls them embellishments, but the public just calls them lies.

Since his leave, NBC's very own Lester Holt has taken the reins of Nightly News.

Williams position behind the Nightly News desk was a coveted spot for him for a long while. From there, he became one of the most famous faces on NBC – after Matt Lauer and Jimmy Fallon, of course – and quickly became known as the "fun" journalist, largely for his appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Yes, we're talking about his Slow Jamming the News segments.

And, well, his 30 Rock appearances. Liar or not, those are still great.
