Both teams are taking each other seriously, according to the press conference coverage over at UEFA.com. Manager Mircea Lucescu of Shakhtar admitted respect for every team in the competition, especially today's opponents.
"We respect all our opponents but this is a very difficult game," he said. "Real Madrid are a super club with top-level organization. It's not good to start the competition against a team like this; Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have an advantage in starting [Group A] at home."

Meanwhile, manager Rafael Benitez told the media that Madrid have to be prepared for Shakhtar.
"Shakhtar are a great team with an experienced coach who always gets good performances from his new players," the coach said, according to the team's official website. "It's going to be a difficult match if we are not focused and do not give due respect to Shakhtar."
