WWE's Sting Talks 'Night of Champions' Injury, Praises Seth Rollins in New Interview
A scary moment occurred during the main event of WWE's Night of Champions pay-per-view last Sunday when Seth Rollins gave Sting the turnbuckle powerbomb. The Icon tried to fight, but it was clear he was injured after he collapsed to the mat. In an exclusive interview with WWE.com, Sting speaks about the injury and praises Seth Rollins.
In the interview, Sting said that he had tingling and numbness in both of his arms down to his fingertips, which eventually traveled down to his legs to the point that they felt like rubber. So when he tried to go for a move, he hit the mat and needed time to collect himself.
Thankfully, Sting seems okay now. Other than some stiffness in his neck, The Icon is recovering well, though he admitted he was worried at the time.
You might think Sting would be perturbed or upset about what happened, but the opposite is true. In fact, Sting showed what a classy man he is by heaping praise upon Rollins in the interview.
"The biggest pleasure. I’m honored," Sting said when asked what it was like to work with Seth Rollins. "After 30 years and working with some of the best and some of the greatest, [Rollins] is, I’m telling you, he’s got to be the best I’ve ever worked with. I mean, this guy has it. And I think he’s just scratching the surface on what he will do.
"I’ve never seen somebody as talented. He’s working two [matches] on Raw, two [matches] on the pay-per-view, he’s involved in every other segment and it’s physical. He’s got guys coming from every angle. There’s a lot on his plate. He’s carrying a lot, and he’s handling it. He’s proven he can do it. I’m just glad I had a chance to work with him. He’s the kind of guy who could be in there with a broomstick and make something very interesting happen, a match that people would love somehow."
That praise on its own would be enough, but Sting went a step further and described what happened after the match. He went to the hospital following the pay-per-view, and a presumably upset Rollins found Sting to apologize for what happened. But Sting turned the tables and issued perhaps the best compliment he could to the champion.
"Really, I can’t say enough. He poked his head in the ambulance and said, 'Man, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what happened.' I said, 'Seth, don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault.' And he, for 15 minutes, he said, 'I just wanted to tell you what an honor it was, what a pleasure. I can’t believe I had a chance to get in the ring with you and work with you. I was you for Halloween when I was a kid.' He was on and on about it, but man, this young guy, he doesn’t have any idea how much I appreciate being able to work with him."
