Clive Davis Responds to Kelly Clarkson's Critical Letter with His Own: Music Producer's Memoir 'The Sound Track of My Life' Prompts Feud
Just days after pop star Kelly Clarkson criticized Clive Davis in an open letter, the music industry legend has responded with his own letter backing up what he wrote in his memoir, The Sound Track of My Life.
Davis has been in the news quite a bit recently after he came out of the closet in an interview with Katie Couric recently. Davis is promoting his new book, The Sound Track of My Life, in which he reveals he has had monogamous relationships with men. The 80-year-old music producer explains in his memoir that he is bisexual, and after being married twice to women, he also realized he was attracted to men.
Davis' memoir brought some backlash from a former protege of his. Kelly Clarkson recently released an open letter where she refutes some of the information in Davis' memoir about her. Soon after winning American Idol, Davis acted as Clarkson's mentor. The two clearly had a falling out, and Davis' new book isn't helping their relationship.
The first paragraph of Clarkson's letter sums up the tone of their current relationship:
"So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don’t have to cower to anyone – even Clive Davis."
In response, Davis just released this letter:
"As anyone who has read ‘The Soundtrack of My Life’ knows, I think Kelly Clarkson is a tremendous vocal talent and performer. In the book, I provide an in-depth look at our years together during which we shared major multi-platinum success, as well as a few creative differences. I am truly very sorry that she has decided to take issue with what I know to be an accurate depiction of our time together. Before the book was published, I had every fact checked with five independent individuals who were present on a daily basis throughout it all. The chapter as it is written was thoroughly verified by each and every one of them. I stand by the chapter as written in my book. At the same time I wish, and will always wish, Kelly’s talent and her career to soar to ever new heights."
Davis clearly isn't backing down from what he wrote in his book. He even seems to provide a quick dig at Clarkson when he says, "I am truly very sorry that she has decided to take issue with what I know to be an accurate depiction of our time together."
Obviously the two are either remembering what happened differently, or one of them is lying. The truth is, we will probably never know.
Who do you think is lying...Kelly Clarkson or Clive Davis?
