Racist Cops Debate Debunked on ‘Daily Show with Trevor Noah’
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah recently took on the question of whether or not all cops are racist. Sending correspondents Jordan Klepper and Roy Wood Jr. out to interview several cops and people who are familiar with the issue, it appears that the general consensus is, as we suspected, no.
The bit kicked off with Noah showing several clips of opposing sides, most of which had to do with the Black Lives Matter movement – with some stating that it's not just black lives that matter, but all lives. Others state that the saying "All Lives Matter" is in fact an offensive one, taking away from the important issue from which Black Lives Matter stemmed––the repeated offenses against unarmed minorities from white police officers.
"The question is, how can we even attempt to solve this problem in this heated environment?" Noah claimed. Which is exactly where Klepper and Wood came in.
So, in the end, are all cops racist? No.
The two interviewed several police officers, asking straight out their opinions on the issue.
Former NYPD detective Bo Dietl explained that there is now a conspiracy taking place in which people believe cops are thinking oh, let's go get a black guy and beat him to death.
"That's not what's going on there," Dietl added.
They then went to Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff, president of the Center for Policing Equity (and a black man) to ask if cops are racist. His response? No, not all cops are racist.
He did say, however, that "almost all people hold implicit biases" – with the exception of the correspondents, of course.
So, folks, are all cops racist?
