'Gotham' Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: Will Ben McKenzie, Morena Baccarin Have 'The Last Laugh?'

Season 2 of the Batman prequel, Gotham,  continues on Fox. In Episode 3, as The Maniax continue their killing spree, will Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), survive Jerome (Cameron Monaghan)'s plans as he gets The Last Laugh?

During his interrogation, Jim has thrown someone out the window. Bullock and Gordon  are beating up suspects  as they search for Jerome. Barbara (Erin Richards) makes out with Tigress (Jessica Lucas) in front of Theo Galavan (James Frain). Theo explains to Barbara about his family history and plans to reclaim what's rightfully his. 

When Jim outlives his usefulness, Theo promises to help Barbara destroy him. After yelling at the other officers at the precinct, Leslie tries to calm down Jim. She wants him to go with him to a charity ball because there will be a magician. Tigress then holds Jerome's father hostage and ties him up.

While Tigress empties out the fridge, Jerome holds the knife close and threatens to kill his father. Jerome's father promises his legacy with death and madness. Just when Jerome is about to kill him, Jim suddenly knocks on the floor. After a loud noise, Jim and Bullock kick the door down. 

Jerome's father has a knife in his eye. Bullock touches the man's hand and gas flows out. As they both breathe in the gas, Jim manages to strangle Jerome. Tigress orders Jerome not to kill Jim and knocks him out. 

Bruce (David Mazouz)  and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) end up meeting Leslie at the banquet.  While Alfred first with Leslie, bruce starts talking to Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova). While Bruce and Selina end up arguing, Theo tells Barbara that he is going to to give Gotham its own hero. Jerome and Tigress have already snuck inside the benefit. 

While Theo and Tigress talk to the Deputy Mayor, Alfred and Leslie continue to flirt, inviting her to dinner at the Wayne mansion. Alfred tries to stay while Bruce wants to leave. As the magic show starts, Jerome ends up picking Bruce as his volunteer. 

While Bullock and Jim deal with the after-affects of the gas, the two realize they have no leads. After Bruce steps down the stage, Leslie recognizes Barbara and calls Jim. The call is abruptly dropped when Leslie is gagged. 

Jerome then murders the Deputy Mayor in front of everyone as the waiters turn out to be Maniax.  Alfred ends up in a fight against the Maniax as Selina and Bruce sneak away. Holding Leslie hostage, Jerome has the cameras pointed at her. As Jerome makes his ransom demand, Theo pretends to stand up to Jerome. 

After Barbara knocks out Theo, Bruce has to go back for Alfred.  Jim then spots Selina out in the streets. As Barbara and Leslie kick and punch each other, Jerome threatens to kill Alfred on stage. Bruce runs up to Alfred to hand him a gun. Jim and Alfred then start taking down the Maniax.

With Bruce being held hostage, Theo stabs Jerome in the throat.Jim is too late to stop Barbara from escaping. Bullock pays a visit to Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), promising to get back at him for Fish Mooney. 

Alfred flirts with Leslie in front of Jim before saying goodbye but catches her kissing Leslie.  As Theo is praised as a hero, Jerome's laughter inspires  the real Joker.
