iZombie Season 2 Premiere "Grumpy Old Liv": What Happens To Major?

The iZombie Season 2 premiere episode, "Grumpy Old Liv," opened with the fate of zombified Major's (Robert Buckley) undead life in the hands of Liv (Rose McIver). We learned that being a zombie, no matter how short of a time it may be, would leave a person with superhero-like abilities.

In last season's finale, Liv used the last dose of Ravi's (Rahul Kohli) zombie cure to help save Major and resurrect Blaine (David Anders). Both Major and Blaine now have the ability to sense zombies. Max Rager, the root of all of their zombie problems, is aware of this and plans to turn the side effect into a weapon.

In order to keep Liv safe, Major is forced to help Max Rager pinpoint and kill all zombies that have riddled Seattle with fear.

Co-Creator, Rob Thomas, shared what we'll see next with Major's transition into a zombie-killer.

"You're going to watch him do that for a long time. It's going to be a moral crisis for him," he said. "It will be tearing him apart and it doesn't get any easier for him for a long time."

The Season 1 finale left viewers with a ton of questions about the dramatic zombie series. Liv was in quite the predicament, saving her zombie-foe and former fiance, but was unable to donate blood to help her brother, Evan (Nick Purcha).

Would Liv's brother survive? What can we expect from the Max Rager team? Can Ravi make another batch of the highly-desired zombie cure?

An issue for anyone that has taken the zombie cure, is that its reversal may not last forever. Major may find himself becoming the very thing that he will be hunting this season.

"We've got a sort of Flowers for Algernon story playing here," Thomas shared. "We've got the one zombie rat new hope who will be sort of the canary in the coal mine for both Major and Blaine. Once stuff starts happening to that rat, you have to figure that it will eventually happen to Major and Blaine as well."
