Sofia Vergara's Illness, Flu Causes 'Modern Family' Beauty to Miss Oscars: Mixed Reports Finally Cleared up by Tweet
After conflicting reports about a "mysterious illness" that allegedly put Modern Family star Sofia Vergara in the hospital the night of the Academy Awards, Sofia takes to Twitter to clear up the confusion and put the rumors to bed. The actress revealed that the actuality of her illness was just a bad case of the flu, which forced Vergara to miss her "red hot" Red Carpet debut Sunday night. Sofia tweeted on Monday:
"Watching the Oscars at home so I don't give everyone the flu haha." With the tweet, she attached an "Instagram" picture of herself lying in bed wearing leapord pajamas and bundled in blankets, hoping that this would nip the spreading of the false "surgery" reports.
With Sofia's Columbian spice noticibly missing from the Red Carpet and Madonna's after party, many different online reports were conjured up by sources stating that the actress skipped the Oscars to undergo a "mystery operation" and was hospitalized on February 24th, as cited by ABC.
A friend of Vergara's stepped up and shot down the alleged reports, however, telling HuffPost Celebrity that "Sofia is fine and there is nothing to worry about."
According to the New York Post, the source went on to explain that Sofia came down with a "nasty case of flu and had to cancel all plans for Oscar weekend," adding that the star was recovering at home in LA, where she planned to watch the show. Although Sofia's friend came to her defense and revealed the truth about Vergara's whereabouts, there was still speculation about the "missing" actress.
The Post had also previously reported that Vergara apparently "showed no sign of illness" when she was seen with her fiancé, Nick Loeb, at Boa Steakhouse in West Hollywood on Friday night of that same weekend.
Other mentions of Vergara's "groom-to-be" in recent tabloids include Loeb's "alteraction" at a nightclub that reportedly left the actress with "scratches and a tear in a dress," according to The Inquisitr. It was later reported that Vergara and Loeb were going to attend pre-marital counseling where they would agree to work on several areas of their relationship before they walk down the aisle.
Although the Columbian beauty was missed on the Red Carpet, hopefully fans can rest easy knowing that the actress is indeed okay and will be fine, as the flu passes, to continue to film her hilarious Modern Family episodes.
