Chris Brown calls Rihanna Assault the 'Biggest Mistake' of His Life, 'People Don't Know Me'
In a interview with the Mirror, Chris Brown finally showed some semblance of remorse or other normal human emotions over his 2009 attack of girlfriend Rihanna.
"That night was the deepest regret of my life, the biggest mistake," Brown said.
He explained the situation that led up to the infamous assualt.
"Sometimes you row, you fight, with the one you love and things get said, stuff spirals."
However, the singer claims that he has "learned" and "grown up" a lot since the assault that ended up with Brown receiving 5 years' probation and community service. He says that gaining the trust of Rihanna, who is once again dating Brown, was not easy.
"She loves me - what can I say? I'm forgiven...but, yes, I worked hard for it," Brown said.
He claimed that with the help of Team Breezy and others, he was able to reflect upon his actions and come out on top.
"The support from those who do know me and the fans, who are incredible, got me through."
Brown has received a lot of criticism since that fateful night in 2009. He was barred from award shows and had to cancel the UK leg of his tour after having his visa denied for "being guilty of a serious criminal offense."
And, of course, people still make jokes. At the Oscars on Sunday, host Seth MacFarlane compared the ultra-violent revenge scenes from Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained to "date night for Rihanna and Chris Brown."
Brown hears these comments and has learned to take them in stride.
"People attack me and criticize me, it happens all the time," Brown said.
"But they don't know me, and they don't know us. It doesn't bother me anymore. Other people can judge us but they don't know anything."
