Jason Segel & Michelle Williams Split Up, Couple Pulled Apart by Long Distance

While most were unaware that the sitcom star Jason Segel and three-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams (not to be confused with the Destiny's Child singer with the same name) were even dating in the first place, it was reported by US Weekly yesterday that the low profile couple broke up earlier this month. Their nearly one year relationship was kept mostly "under-wraps" and ended just as quietly as it began.

Although many details about the split between the How I Met Your Mother comedian and the orginal Dawson's Creek[er] have yet to be revealed, an inside source states that the apparent cause was their struggle with long distance. Jason is mostly based in Los Angeles where he films the HIMYM sitcom, while Jen resides on the other side of the country in New York with her seven-year old daughter Matilda (fathered by WIlliams' late ex Heath Ledger).

Us Weekly broke the news of the couple's "undercover" romance nearly a year ago in March 2012, and updates came in June from a close source who claimed that Williams and Segel were "totally in love. Jason is obsessed with Michelle." Jason is also said to have taken a liking to his girlfriend's daughter. "He's been doing all sorts of 'dad stuff' with her, like drawing and playing music," the insider stated.

According to LA Times:

[Michelle and Jason] are said to have been introduced by Williams' good friend and "Dawson's Creek" costar Busy Philipps, who was also on "Freaks and Geeks" with Segel. Williams and Segel reportedly moved in to a Brooklyn apartment together last year. The split seems to have happened quickly since the pair seemed happy together as recently as last month, when they were photographed on vacation in Cancun with Williams' best friend Philipps.

Earlier this month, the actress was spotted at the LA premiere of her upcoming movie "Oz the Great and Powerful" without Segel by her side.

Hopefully US Weekly, who seem to have the inside scoop, will reveal more details on the unfortunate split in their new issue on Friday.
