Rock band Green Day's lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong opened up about his addictions and recovery process in his first interview to the Rolling Stone magazine.

This is Armstrong's first interview after he went to rehab for substance abuse. The singer had a meltdown onstage during his performance at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, September 2012,  where he blasted out against the promoters of the festival.

The 41-year-old singer in the interview to Rolling Stone spoke about "his years of alcohol and prescription drug abuse and his road back."

"I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night. I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout," recalled lead vocalist for Green Day.

"I remember tiny things. The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, 'How bad was it?' She said, 'It's bad.' I called my manager. He said, 'You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately,'" said the singer about his last meltdown onstage.

Armstrong had smashed his guitar and shouted, "I'm not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers." His band later apologized.

Green Day and Armstrong will be giving out their first post-rehab performance at the South by Southwest festival, March 15. The band will later resume their tour after it was delayed due to Armstrong heading to rehab.
