90210 Cancelled on CW after Five Seasons; Cast of Revamped Teen Drama Tweet their Farewells

The CW announced on Thursday that their tv series 90210 has been cancelled after running for a solid five seasons on the network. A reboot of FOX's original Beverly Hills: 90210, which ran from 1990 to 2000, the next generation of West Beverly High made its hit debut back in 2008 and lasted half as long as the original series, notes the Associated Press.

CW president Mark Pedowitz explained the network's decision to cancel 90210 in a statement to Us Weekly. "The CW has had five great seasons with America's favorite zip code, 90210," he said. "I'd like to thank the talented cast, producers and crew for all their hard work and dedication to the series. We are very proud of the West Beverly High alumni."

The series, starring AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Stroup, Shenae Grimes, and Tristan Wilds, started out with a bang, but steadily slipped in the ratings from 4.6 million viewers to roughly 500,000 a week, according to the Star Ledger. When the ratings hit an all-time low in February, the time came for CW to call it quits.

With only seven episodes left to air, the 90210 will come to a close with its final episode on Monday, May 13.

TV Line, who first reported the news of 90210's cancellation, says the series finale will likely be paired with a retrospective, similar to the sendoffs given to One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl by the CW in their series final episodes. Before 90210 concludes, fans can expect an appearance from Michael Jackson's son, Prince Michael Jackson, as he makes his acting debut on the show as well as a performance by the recently reunited band Fall Out Boy.

Series stars AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Stroup and Jessica Lowndes thanked their fans for their continued support over the years via Twitter yesterday and seem sad to say goodbye to the zip code that they called home for the past 5 years, says Us Weekly.

"Oh Silver, our time has come to an end but you are a part of me forever," Stroup tweeted of her character Feb. 28. "Thanks to the fans who have been along for the ride. All my love."

"Thank you for all of the support for so long," tweeted McCord, who played bad girl Naomi Clark. "I'm sorry you aren't getting the proper sendoff you deserve, but please know how much your love means to me!"

"To my amazing cast, I have loved working with each and every one of you. I'm excited to see what you all do next! I expect great things," Jessica Lowndes, who played Adrianna Tate-Duncan, tweeted March 1. "I feel very blessed that I had the opportunity to play Adrianna these past five seasons. Thank you for your endless support. I love you guys."

Original Beverly Hills: 90210 cast member, Jason Priestley, also commented on the series cancellation via Twitter, "Lasted half as long as the original... Not bad guys..."

As another one of CW's long-running shows fade from their lineup, we can only hope that the network has another juicy drama to fill 90210's spot with.
