A 400-inmate fight caused the Arizona State Prison Complex on South Wilmot to remain on lockdown. The massive brawl happened in the Whitestone Unit Sunday morning between 300 Caucasian and Mexican-American inmates and about 100 African-American inmates, according to Bill Lamoreaux with the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Only five inmates were taken to local hospitals for their injuries, two prison employees received minor injuries, and other inmates were being treated at the prison. Authorities are unclear of what started the fight. Visitation has been suspended at the Arizona State Prison says Lamoreaux.

About 1,250 prisoners are imprisoned in the Whetstone Unit and no other prisoners from the seven units were involved in the huge fight. It's still unclear how long it took guards to stabilize and end the fight.
