Believe it or not, celebrities had lives before they gained fame and fortune. Some worked day jobs while pursuing their art, but some served in the military and even fought for our country. Therefore, being that today is Veterans Day, let's take a look at the top five celebrity veterans from the film, TV and music industries.

WILLIE NELSON

Before he was known for strumming that guitar and telling us that we're always on his mind, Nelson reportedly served in the Air Force and fought in the Korean War. The Independent Journal reports that Nelson had hopes of being a jet pilot; sadly, he was discharged due to a bad back just nine months into his service.

MORGAN FREEMAN

Yep, Morgan Freeman was once a young person! Who knew? Like Nelson, the actor reportedly served in the Air Force. He, however, stuck around from 1955-1959 as an Automatic Tracking Radar Repairman.

CLINT EASTWOOD

This one isn't a total shocker, is it? After all, Eastwood used to be known for being one of the most badass actors around. Even as a director, the guy is rather intimidating. Before making his enemies tremble onscreen, Eastwood served in the Army from 1951-1953.

HUGH HEFNER

Playboy's own Hugh Hefner served in the United States Army from 1944-1946, working as an infantry clerk. Per his bio on Playboy Enterprises, the entrepreneur drew cartoons for an array of Army newspapers during his time serving the country.

ICE-T

The coolest man in the world, Ice-T, served in the Army from 1979-1983 in the 25th division. During an interview with NPR, the Law & Order star admitted to having joined the army to take care of his daughter at the age of 19. He explains that before that he knew only a life of selling drugs on the street. However, when his daughter entered the world, he knew something had to change.
