North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un reportedly has an heir after rumors of his wife, Ri Jol Su, giving birth in secret. Some sources say that the birth could have happened as early as last year. There is wide speculation that the child could be groomed to become the next leader of the isolated, communist country. Kim took power just over a year ago and this would be his first child.

Ri Jol Su, who is said to be in her 20s, supposedly gave birth the heir late last year but there are no reports on the gender of the child. According to a South Korean government source, "North Korean authorities may have either induced Ri to go into labor at the end of last year or have her child through Caesarean section in order to bear a child in 2012, which marks 100 years since founder Kim Il Sung's birth."

These rumors sprouted from Ri's appearance at the Palace of the Sun on Sunday. She was paying respect to the founder of the communist regime, Kim Il Sung, and his successor Kim Jong Il. She had appeared to be pregnant in photos taken in December, but looked noticeably thinner in pictures from the event. There has been very little known about the dictator's wife, but some defectors from North Korea have been giving new details about Ri. According to a United States official, "Ri Sol Ju is a fresh face who is clearly stepping out but it's much too early to say if her public activity will have any political relevance in North Korea."

The Washington Free Beacon are reporting that the South Korean government "recently confirmed" the birth of the heir. Countless other unconfirmed reports that Ri gave birth have surfaced as well.  According to the editor of the North Korean Leadership Watch, Michael Madden, "If it was a boy, [the North Koreans] would have made an announcement."
