Mike Ditka Jinx? Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Wears Green Bay Packers Sweater
Mike Ditka, Chicago Bears hall of famer turned ESPN analyst, recently donned the green and gold of Green Bay for a McDonald's commercial. Which, to Bears fans, felt like a good kick in the shin. However, since initially suiting up in Packer colors, Green Bay has gone 0-3, suggesting a jinx is in play.
The Ditka commercials are something of a mini series, airing seven different versions of the legendary coach donning the green and gold vest (it's noteworthy to point out Ditka's love affair with a good vest--it's his Ben and Jerry's ice cream after a long hard day). Considering Ditka's high profile background as both a coach and a player for the Bears, it's understandable that some die-hards took it the wrong way. Among them, Bears hall of famer, Mike Singletary.
"Oh, my. I talked to coach Ditka and I'm just thinking 'What are you thinking? How in the world did they have you do that?' There's just some things you can't do," Singletary said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, via CBS Sports.
Ditka, on the other hand, had no issues wearing the green and gold vest.
"I had no problem at all putting it on," Ditka said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, via CBS Sports. "It's a commercial. I thought it was kind of funny and kind of cute. Frankly, if people were offended by that, then get a life. Come on. It's no big deal."
Fair enough. What about the jinx, coach?
"No, I didn't jinx them," Ditka said, via ESPN. "They haven't won a game for other reasons, but it's ironic. They are going to find something to say regardless, good or bad, both Bears and Green Bay fans. It doesn't matter."
Sure, sure. Then how else do you explain Green Bay's sudden issues--that so coincidentally coincide with your commercial?
"People are amazing," Ditka said, via ESPN. "It doesn't bother me. I'm going to live through this, believe me. I think I'm going to live through. They are a good team. A lot of what they are doing, they are doing with Aaron Rodgers, and they don't have all the pieces. It's not a prolific running attack. They are missing some receivers. And the defense is a good defense but not a great defense."
Whatever you say, Mike. Maintain your innocence. Do what you have to do. But nobody's fooled. There are greater Ditka forces at play here, and we all know it. As long as the commercial runs, Green Bay doesn't. It's as simple as that.
