'View' Eating Disorder Joke- Hosts Joy Behar, Michelle Collins, Candace Cameron Bure Poke Fun
It seems to everyday there is another scandal emerging regarding the long-running ABC morning program, The View. While NeNe Leakes might have just come out saying that her time on the show was rather unenjoyably, even describing the ladies as "mean girls," it seems that the panelists are once again coming under fire for some of the things that they have said on TV. This time the ladies, including Joy Behar, Michelle Collins, and Candace Cameron Bure, made light of eating disorders, such as bulimia and anorexia.
According to Us Weekly, during the show's Thursday November 19 episode, they took to the air to make some untactful remarks about the eating disorders, asking which one they thought was "better" to have, bulimia or anorexia?
The co-hosts were discussing Donald Trump's recent weight loss, which was unintended, and Behar told the audience, "We were just discussing whether it's better to become bulimic or anorexic backstage."
Collins followed up the comment by asking the others on the panel, "What do you girls think?" adding her own opinion, saying, "Definitely bulimic. You get to enjoy the meal."
Bure also spoke up, according to New York Daily News, as a person who has overcome having an eating disorder and said that she felt that she could joke about it for that specific reason.
"Please know that while this is in jest, as someone that has dealt with an eating disorder, I don't want to make light of anyone that has it...I think I can joke about it because I've been there," she said, after the women explained that they were "kidding."
According to The Wrap, the gals of the show later apologized for the comments say, "We always offend someone on this show. We're like always in trouble - the comedians in particular," Behar explained. "We understand that bulimia is a serious illness, we're just trying to have some fun over here."
