Volcano Eruption in Italy: Sicily's Mount Etna Erupts Shooting Lava in Amazing Display [VIDEO]

Want to see video of a volcano erupting? Well you can check out Mount Etna, Europe's most famous active volcano erupting and lighting up the sky below. Italy's Mount Etna erupted Tuesday night shooting out hot lava and ash. The volcano is located in Sicily and the activity at Mount Etna was reportedly taking place at a new crater at the height of 9,500 feet.

The video below is an amazing sight. The lava shoots up into the night's sky like something seen out of a movie. Flights in the area will reportedly have to change their course at times to make sure they don't fly through ash clouds. However, according to reports, Tuesday's eruption didn't cause any delays at the nearby Catania airport.

The volcano is located above the Sicilian town of Catania, but it rarely causes damage. NPR highlighted a recent satellite photo that actually showed the exploding volcano from space. NASA flew over the volcano and took an image that, "combines shortwave infrared, near infrared, and green light in the red, green, and blue channels."

Mount Etna is Europe's tallest active volcano, but up until February it was fairly inactive for about a year. However, back on Feb. 19 the volcano first awoke sending hot ash and lava into the air. It seems like something has stirred the angry mountain.

Compared to other volcanoes, Etna is one of the fiercest and largest. It was chosen as a "Decade Volcano" by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior or IAVCEI. This means it is worthy of study based on its history of large eruptions near populated areas. Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and it's recent eruptions only further this statement. The latest eruptions in the new crater add to the volcano's long history of activity.
