'American Idol' Season 12 Recap: Results From Last Night, Top 10 Finalists Revealed for 2013 Season, Viewers Vote Revealed

Thursday night was results night for season 12 of "American Idol." Ten contestants were going home and ten were moving on to continue to try to fulfill their dream. For the first time this season the fate of 10 male contestants and 10 female contestants was up to the viewers who voted after the contestants live performances in Las Vegas. The "American Idol" cast and crew have gone back to Los Angeles to reveal the final 10 singers in season 12.

In a 90-minute results episode, Ryan Seacrest revealed the 10 finalists one-by-one backstage. "American Idol" gave the live audience and the judges a new twist by not letting them know who was picked until they walked on stage. Seacrest would announce one contestant's name at a time to the group of 20 backstage and they would walk to the stage and be revealed to the judges and audience. Once getting to the stage, each finalist would perform a song.

According to Seacrest, there were over 39 million votes cast. So who made it? The five male finalists were the first to be announced. They are as follows: Paul Jolley, Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch Jr., Devin Velez, and Lazaro Arbos. Elijah Liu was the one surprise singer for me that didn't make the final five. You could argue Liu should have been in the top five over Jolley. What do you think?

Charlie Askew, Vincent Powell, Cortez Shaw, and NIck Boddington join Liu on their way home. Fortunately or unfortunately viewers didn't vote Askew in based on sympathy after his near meltdown Wednesday night.

Next up were the ladies. The five female finalists joining the guys in the top 10 are Janelle Arthur, Candice Glover, Angie Miller, Amber Holcomb, and Kree Harrison. Again, no major surprises. I think the viewers got the female finalists right. Failing to move on are Breanna Steer, Adriano Latonio, Zoanette Johnson, Aubrey Cleland, and Tenna Torres.

So there you have it. Your ten finalists on "American Idol's" twelfth season. Any surprises? Was there anyone you thought deserved to be in the top ten that didn't get voted in? Comment below!
