Eagles of Death Metal Perform with U2 in Paris Following Attacks

At the center of the attacks in Paris last month, specifically at the Bataclan Theater, was the American band Eagles of Death Metal. It was during their show that terrorists affiliated with ISIS entered the theater and began shooting. Less than one month later, the group returned to Paris to perform alongside U2 and pay their respects to those who lost their lives that night.

While playing at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris this past Monday, U2 lead singer Bono told the crowd, "They were robbed of their stage three weeks ago, and we would like to offer them ours tonight." With that, the band invited the Eagles of Death Metal to come on stage to perform.

Mic notes that the performance was recorded for HBO. And while the set was undoubtedly expressive for the band, photographer JR captured some stills from behind the scenes, like the one seen above, which show the intimately emotional experience it actually was.

After the concert, U2 took to Twitter to congratulate the Eagles of Death Metal for their amazing performance.

The Eagles of Death Metal's Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme recently sat down with VICE to discuss what occurred the night of the attack. Hughes described to Shane Smith, in detail, the happenings – specifically when his leather jacket saved the life of a child.
